Akrioc fell asleep in his corner while the conversations took place around him. His kind were nocturnal by nature, and this sudden switch to daylight living made him a bit sleepy whenever he took a moment to rest. As the professor got ready to take attendance, the massah was soundly passed out, his fortress of a body position slacking into a more relaxed form.

Willow's face shriveled when she heard Sari say that she needed to stay here today. She didn't want to stay here. Sari knew how she felt in the midst of others. Especially those educated people that would not understand it if she did speak. She didn't need the whole class laughing at her.
So with a frown on her face Willow grabbed at Sari's chair and turned it all the way around with the back of the chair facing the students and then she made herself comfortable in the chair. If sorry was going to make her stay in this miserable room at least she might as well be comfortable. Sari could stand. Then maybe tomorrow he would leave her at home where she wanted to be. School, she didn't need school, school couldn't help her. Nobody could.
As Willow sat in the chair her thoughts began to wonder. She wondered if she would ever meet her real parents. Why did they leave her in that nasty orphange where kids laughed at her and the adults beat her. Well she was at least safe here. Before you know it Willow was fast asleep, snoring very loudly.

Edward smiled softly at the sound of the girl's snores. He wondered silently to himself why she would not speak. No matter, the boy would soon enough try to befriend her. Though Edward was always known as the c0cky smartass, he has his moments where he's rather kind. Of course, no one knows that. No one has seen that side of him since he was a small child. Edward pondered what he should say, when the teacher would call out his name for roll. With a smirk, he figured something out.

"Well let's hope...I'd hate to give the boys detention or even another warning." It had been so long since the man had been a student or even in a class room, that he forgot the excitement of first days and meeting classmates. He was aware the boy's had been whispering. It was fine for then.
Reaching up, he briefly touched Sari's cheek before he quickly pulled his hand away going to lean against one of the shelves or something...he didn't want to distract him.

Sari smiled, glancing at Willow. She was just a child, he couldn't expect her to understand. She wouldn't be able to stay this way forever...and the world could be a wonderful place at times, he wanted her to be exposed to that. If she didn't learn to start accepting people now, she'd grow up and live alone, and he didn't want that for her.
Loving others was worth the risk.
Turning his attention back to his duties, he began to quickly call roll, checking off names as the corresponding student indicated their presence. So much time wasted already...but that was fine -- it was only the first day, anyway.
"Roxibus, Edward?"

Edward grinned. He hadn't had roll called on him in a while. "MY NAME'S EDWARD!!!" He shouted. Quickly he cursed inside his head, hoping he hadn't awakened the sleeping child. The redheaded elf grinned rather obnoxiously and waved his hand back and forth after he called out his presence. "HOW'RE YOU!?" He hoped that the class would at least look at him funny for being so outgoing and making a fool of himself the first day of class. Back in the public schools Edward would always get a roar of laughter. But these people from the private school looked too stuck up to even have a funny-bone in their body. Or at least to c0cky Edward they did.

One of Akrioc's eyes shot open to reveal a crimson orb tinted with swirling flakes of red energy. The red showed that he was either startled, uneasy, or angry, but as his other eye opened, the tinted energy faded out of them. Loud, sudden noises did not bode well with a massah, especially one that was sleeping. The balance of life and death often hinged on immediate impulsive responses. Even among themselves, it was best to strike a suspected foe first and ask questions later least you find your throat suddenly missing. It wasn't just the noise that startled him awake, though, it was the peels of hot energy that blasted elf was throwing off that caused Akrioc the most agitation.
When warm energies are cast off like that, at least among the mellow massah, it usually means someone is pumping themselves up for a fight, are hunting, or are aroused. Akrioc figured that neither was the case here, so he held back his impulse to lunge into battle, but this was something he wouldn't be able to tolerate for long without getting some nasty side effects. Anyone who works with wild animals will tell you that you need to stay calm, or they'll turn.
Standing up on all fours and looking very much like a cat, the white massah started to slip along the back wall behind the other students that had piled in during his nap. Moving closer to the red head, he took up a crouched position within short range of him. With one ear pointed toward the teacher, and all other senses honed on the elf, he waited to see if Edward would settle down, or if some intervention was in order.

"Edward, please calm down," the professor said to the other redhead, not seeming annoyed in the slightlest. He smiled a little. "I'm glad you're enthused, but you'll have to learn some restraint in this class or you'll startle and upset the creatures we're trying to learn about."
He would hate to have to have Edward removed from the class, but he understood that it was the first day and everyone was excited.
Sari finished roll and began explaining a bit about the class and what they'd be doing, his eyes glancing every now and then to Akrioc. He was hoping there wouldn't be any trouble....
Mystical Creatures was a very straight-forward course, and would teach students about a variety of races and how to handle them. Why, some of those races might even be in the school right now. He said there would be a lot of hands-on learning in this class, but for a few days it would be mostly lectures and textbook work.
He handed out textbooks, which were more like encyclopedias of creatures, and told them it was more reference material and they didn't have to bring it to class everyday. It was really only for studying and homework.
Sari stopped at the front of the class once he had finished handing the books out, then gestured to the set of strangely-marked doors along one of the classroom walls. "These are off limits to students," he said with a smile. "Please leave them alone."
They were magically sealed, but he still didn't want students messing with them. Hm...had he forgotten anything? Oh!
"Willow will be helping me in the class often," he told them, nodding towards the sleeping girl. "I'd appreciate it if you were all kind to her. Does anyone have any questions?"

Edward, after already exciting himself, found it difficult to calm back down. The elf boy smirked and bounced up and down minutely, so as not to cause a disturbance, but to release the energy bottled up inside him. As Akrioc stared at him, Edward felt tense. He grinned wider, and shot a glance over to him. "Something I can help you with?" He murmured. Edward rose an eyebrow. "Well? Or am I so devilishly good looking that you feel the need to pounce on me like the females back home?" Edward grinned at his remark. The concieted [sp] boy always assumed when someone wanted to jump onto him it was because he was beautiful. The fact being that he was, was completely irrelivant.

The white massah smiled, though it had some traits of a snarl in it. "Oh yes, I'll pounce alright, and I'm sure it'll be a treat no female's ever offered before." Being physically less excited in gesture and action certainly helped Edward's case. A fight wouldn't come of it if the boy stayed settled a bit, but Akrioc was an oddball among his kind. You never knew quite what would set him off or when. If the elf chose to taunt him though, his prospects weren't looking good.
Akrioc's pupils narrowed until the black was almost entirely closed off, a gesture that meant he was focusing entirely on the energies around him and not his sight. His posture also shifted a bit as he pulled his upper body back, causing his lower back to arch and his weight to be balanced more on his hips. His head tilted down so that his eyes peered out from under his furrowed brow, and his ears started to tilt back. It could seem inconspicuous enough to an untrained eye.

"Alright, students," Sari said, stopping in front of Akrioc and Edward. The tension coming off these two was almost tangible, it was certainly not a good thing. Sari didn't know much about the massah race -- this was his first year here, and he was supposed to be just a temporary teacher for Mystical Creatures -- so he was kind of in the dark when it came to their tendencies. Perhaps he would talk to a more knowledgable instructor about it later. "Class is almost over."
He glanced at the clock on the wall, then back to them.
"Go ahead and gather your things and put your shoes back on. Your assignment for tonight is just to get acquainted with your textbook."
Not that he expected many of them to actually do that...

Edward quickly jumped to his feet and grabbed his textbook and shoes, quickly slapping them on and throwing his book into his shoulder bag. "I'll see you next time then." Edward grinned to Akrioc and slowly motioned for the door. That way he would be first out of the classroom and able to let out the excess energy stored in his elven body.

When the boy unexpectedly jumped up, the massah sprung back farther on his haunches, more startled than anything, and splayed his taloned fingers while rolling his shoulders back. Letting out a slow strained breath, it was fairly obvious he was struggling to contain himself. Watching Edward gather his things and quickly move away, Akrioc slowly released some of the tension in his shoulders and settled into a lying position much like a cat. If he still had his tail, it would be twitching madly, probably leaving some gouges in the ground around him.
The massah watched as the other students got up to gather their books and belongings, thankfully with much less commotion all together than what the elf had produced alone. He waited until the last of them was heading toward the door before he got on all fours, then pushed himself up to a bipedal position. Locking his hips back into place with a couple of cracks and scrapes, he walked up to Ydranna. As he reached out for the book, Akrioc shot the man a glare as if he blamed him for the existence of the annoying one. Pulling the monster dictionary to him, the white massah flipped it open to a random page. He stood staring at it for a minute, his eyes squinting and his hand moving the pages back and forth to different distances. After a moment, he closed it with one hand and held it out for Ydranna to take. "I can't read it. The print's too small. I wouldn't suppose you have a copy in Rilonin would you?"
Rilonin was the only written language a massah can readily read due to their far sightedness. Walk into one of the libraries of Nolrin, and almost any other race would find it full of empty books, but to the massah, it was full of life. The language was written in spirit, embedding a living essence into non-living matter and altering each page's pattern to read like text to their sixth sense. It was rare to find one outside of the homeland, so Akrioc's question was purely sarcasm.
